Functional Nutrition

When Betty Murray worked in IT in the 90s, she suffered from digestive problems that started in her 20s. She was diagnosed with colitis, an autoimmune digestive disorder.

When Betty asked her doctor if there was anything she could do with her diet to address her disease he laughed in her face. “He told me that it had nothing to do with how I ate.” Not satisfied with his rude response, Betty started to take classes so she could determine if there was something she could do to heal naturally.

Her desire to seek help for herself prompted her to switch career paths so she could assist others as she was helped. “I feel like functional medicine and the nutrition side of it should be the standard of care. I would be proud if my tombstone read: ‘She was instrumental in fundamentally changing how health care is delivered in the United States.'” Betty believes that we’ve been robbed of our health by way of how our healthcare system runs.

While many practices offer functional nutrition, Betty has a deep understanding of the biochemistry and genetics that most people don’t go as in-depth in. She is board-certified with the Institute for Functional Medicine, which is considered the gold standard for FM training. Betty also is working toward a Ph.D. in Integrative and Functional Nutrition.

Coupled with her unique ability to understand patterns, Betty’s the one people go to when no one else knows what to do. Betty sees the most complex people.

I’m someone who will help them uncover the root cause and do dietary and lifestyle things that can help them get and stay well. - Betty

Using function nutrition, we can help clients with the following:
Autoimmune disorders

Autoimmune diseases affect nearly 50 million people. These diseases include rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, celiac, scleroderma, multiple sclerosis, Hashimoto’s thyroid disease, inflammatory bowel disease and others.

Your immune system acts as a defense against plaguing pathogens. Autoimmunity occurs when your immune system gets confused and your tissues are mistakenly viewed as the enemy.

Nutrition

Functional medicine practitioners like Betty use a combination of nutrition and lifestyle first to establish a healthy foundation. She then adds natural agents such as supplements, herbs, nutraceuticals and homeopathics.
Digestion
Do you have digestive distress in the form of gas, bloating, constipation or other issues? If yes, you know how uncomfortable those issues can be and how they can impact your quality of life. Discover how we can address those problems so you can feel and function optimally.
Energy

Did you know that every single process in your body requires energy? To get that energy, nutrition and biochemical reactions are required. If you’d like to have more energy we can help!
Mood

Changes in mood are a part of life. You may be upbeat one moment and irritable the next day. But chronic mood imbalances are not normal and your genes, what you eat, take, think and do can impact your moods greatly. We can help you boost your mood without having to resort to medication, which comes with many side effects.
MTHFR

MethyleneTetraHydroFolate Reductase (MTHFR) is a gene. Like all genes, MTHFR acts like a light switch. It turns on or off different body processes, genetic activities and chemical reactions. In this case, MTHFR takes folate (vitamin B9) and converts it to methylfolate (5-methylTHF).

If you have a malfunction or mutation in the genetics that affect this gene from doing its job, the cogs on both sides of the picture are going to stop. We can help.

Weight Loss

Can’t get the scale to move in the right direction no matter how many times you hit the gym weekly or cut those calories? We can help. Our metabolically designed, hormonally sound and personalized approach to weight loss corrects underlying metabolic, hormonal and lifestyle issues that plague many who experience weight loss resistance. On average, participants shed 12-15 pounds of fat a month on this program.

At our practice, Betty uses many different brands of supplements. She also will be private labeling ones for her clients who are struggling with hormone issues. As part of your customized care plan, Betty will recommend the supplements that will get you optimal results.
